| Vian kuvaus | On the affected vehicles, the three screws connecting the servo unit (e-motor) to the rack housing of the steering gear are potentially not fastened correctly due to a manufacturing fault, so that a loosening of one or more screws or loosening of the whole e-motor cannot be excluded. One faulty screw connection might go unnoticed. In the case of more than one faulty screw connection, considerable noise and haptic feedback can be expected, which may alert the driver to a problem with the vehicle. If indications such as haptic feel and acoustic changes are ignored by the customer, a safety critical failure of the steering gear (locking up) cannot be excluded. This could increase the risk of an accident. On November 9th, 2023, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall “Replace Steering Gear – G01 G02 G20 G42”. On affected vehicles the steering gear will be replaced. |
