If the screws securing the lashing rails in the luggage compartment fail (shear of), the lashing rail might not crumple as designed. Instead, the rail might remain intact and even penetrate the backseat back rest depending on the impact (only under extremely unfavorable conditions). Under these circumstances serious injuries to backseat occupants cannot be excluded. On July 10, 2024, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall 0051960500 “Lashing Rail – G01 F97”. On August 12, 2024, BMW decided to recall additional, potentially affected VINs. On affected vehicles the screw connections will be reworked with stronger screws and special washers. |
