| Vian kuvaus | According to analysis from Takata and independent test laboratories, a possible degradation of the propellant tablets could lead to an overaggressive combustion in the event the airbag is activated which may cause the inflator body to rupture. In addition, field return tests and study results showed an agerelated change in characteristics, so that a malfunction of the inflators cannot be excluded. Vehicle Production: 02.01.2016 – 12.12.2017 If a possible degradation of the propellant tablets occurs, this could lead to an overaggressive combustion in the event the airbag is activated which may cause the inflator body to rupture. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed. A malfunction of the inflators due to an agerelated change in characteristics cannot be excluded. The risk will increase according to the age of the vehicle. As of 2016 BMW decided safety recalls for the markets AU, CN, JP and KR with regard to BMW vehicles equipped with the Takata airbag inflator SDI. In June 2021, BMW decided the extension of these existing safety recalls for markets with high absolute humidity regarding Takata airbag inflator SDI (TC 0032230300). In December 2022, BMW decided the extension of these existing safety recalls for all other markets with regard to BMW vehicles equipped with the Takata front airbag inflator SDI for the production period 2012 – 2014 (TC 0032390300) and in March 2023 for the vehicle production 2015 (TC 0032420300). On July 24, 2024, BMW decided the further extension of these existing safety recalls with regard to BMW vehicles equipped with the Takata front airbag inflator SDI for the vehicle production 2016 and 2017 (as of 2018 implementation inflator without ammonium nitrate). On affected vehicles the driver airbag module will be replaced. |
