| Vian kuvaus | For vehicles with the option SA 5AT “Driving Assistant Plus” and SA 5AU “Driving Assistant Professional” the handsondetection is executed per continuous capacity measurement. Undercertain circumstances, the manufacturing fault could cause a shaky contact, which might result in the system detecting the hands on the steering wheel even though they are not. Safety standards, such as a handsoff warning or emergency stop, could not be triggered by the system in required situations. Risky driving situations and even the risk for injury cannot be excluded. This fault represents a nonconformity with regards to UNR79, Cat. B1 & C and KMVSS Art. 89 para. 2. In October 2023, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall “Check steering wheel and rework ground connection – G60 G70”. In July 2024 a faulty wheel steering was detected during a test drive in USA. Further review regarding further potentially affected vehicles has been conducted. On August 07, 2024, BMW extend this recall and decided to initiate the safety recall 0032650300 “Steering Wheel/Hands off Detection (HOD)” with regard to BMW models G45, G60, G61 and G70. On affected vehicles the steering wheel will be checked and if necessary, the ground connection reworked. |
