| Vian kuvaus | The screw connection might not withstand the shear forces in case of a rear end impact under extremely unfavorable conditions (direct impact on lashing rail), which in turn might lead to the screws failing. After receiving feedback from dealers performing the rework, the screw connections were reviewed and it was found, that due to tolerances on individual vehicles the reworked screw connection might not be sufficient. Cause is that the replacement bolts might not be long enough in combination with the additional washers. The risks remain unchanged from the original recall. If the screws securing the lashing rails in the luggage compartment fail (shear of), the lashing rail might not crumple as designed. Instead, the rail might remain intact and even penetrate the backseat back rest depending on the impact (only under extremely unfavorable conditions). Under these circumstances serious injuries to backseat occupants cannot be excluded. Statutory rear crash tests cover around 98% of all accidents. BMW fully complies with these regulations. The described risk lies within the remaining 2% and are extremely unlikely. On October 9th, 2024, BMW decided to initiate the safety recall “Replace screw connection lashing rail0051070600 G01 F97” for vehicles already reworked within the scope of Technical Campaign “Rework Lashing Rail” 0051960500. On affected vehicles the screw connections will be reworked with newer, longer bolts. The special washers can be reused. |
