In addition, field return tests and study results showed an age-related change in characteristics, so that a malfunction of the inflators cannot be excluded. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed. According to the current situation, the use of vehicles - that were originally equipped with a PSDI-5 inflator and those, which were retrofitted with such inflator - represent an increased safety risk for the driver. We strongly recommend that the customers make an appointment at a workshop immediately before further use. On affected vehicles the driver airbag module will be replaced. |
